Vision happens instantly, reliably and seemingly effortlessly each time we open our eyes. However, the ease and speed with which we are able to see the world in front of us is deceiving. Extracting meaningful information about three-dimensional objects from the two-dimensional images in the back of our eyes requires considerable computational resources and sophistication. My research aims to elucidate the brain circuits that perform the challenging task of interpreting sensory impressions formed by the retina in order to establish visual perceptual experience.
